The new Bankstown Station progressing well. Although it will suck to have to tap thru 2 gates to transfer, this big new pedestrian link is really going to open up the two halves of Bankstown's commercial core. Also surprised they didn't have a second eastern exit from the Metro.

LAWSON, 96km from Central, serves a nice pub, a small collection of shops and some low-density suburbia. It has two platforms accessed from a pedestrian underpass. No lift, but an upgrade was just announced. It has a slightly larger heritage platform building, which once housed a signal box (1/3)

Rhodes Station Precinct Revitalisation collaborate.canadabay.nsw.gov.au/rhodes-stati... Some welcome footpath upgrades and traffic calming. Also a statement that the promised pedestrian bridge to link the concourse to the Rhodes Central shopping centre is still planned, although unfunded.

I've noticed at Martin Pl many people take the lifts as it's slightly faster than the long escalators. Other systems make lifts priority for disabled, prams, etc. with queue spaces to put them up front. I would like to see that here too.

Also: Council plan to remove cars from the George St end of Hunter St and reduce the rest from four lanes to one. Sydney is in a virtuous cycle of building transit and removing road space, enabling both better access to transit and removal of even more road space. How to actually beat traffic!

HAZELBROOK, 93km from Central, is a newly upgraded station that serves a collection of shops and some suburbia. It's the usual two platforms with a heritage station building, accessed from a new footbridge with a lift. The platforms are rather bare, the upgrade didn't include any new shelters (1/2)

Proposal for a new entrance for KINGS CROSS in a 40 storey tower replacing the Holiday Inn. Currently the lift takes you there, a block away from Darlinghurst Rd. The new tower will include a new station exit, shops and public plaza. A nice upgrade! salterbrothers.com.au/onekingscross/

WOODFORD, 90km from Central, is another green, charming little mountains station serving a low density suburb in a valley. It has the usual two platforms, a heritage brick building and a ticket office. Again the waiting room is only open in the morning but from the window it looks really cosy! (1/3)

LINDEN, 87km from Central, is a strangely located station that seems to serve basically nothing? It's similar to other stations on the line with two platforms and the usual heritage brick building housing a ticket office and waiting room. The platform has grass along the middle. (1/2)

Sydney shows that a well constructed light rail network serving a __long_ vibrant human-centric car-free downtown and connected to the suburbs, major entertainment/recreation venues, and suburban feeder trains will be used as well on the weekends as on the weekdays.

Putting into perspective how quiet some of these mountains stations get. Some get maybe 2 or 3 passengers per day. The service patterns aren't straightforward either. Some see 4 trains/hr in peak, some see 4 trains/day! For contrast, Tallawong saw nearly 200,000 tap-ons in the same month.

Strathfield, the best-serviced suburban station in Australia, may finally get a proper amount of housing around it? A 43 storey tower in the pipeline to the south. It's crazy it's just detached houses 2 min walk away to the north. From the Housing Delivery Authority's August minutes.

Hunters Hill getting called out for not meeting their housing target is hilarious. If they just let themselves be absorbed into the City of Ryde, noone would care about their little peninsula. But no, they wanted their own fiefdom. So they get their own housing target.

As I work my way up the Blue Mountains, remember all of this area is well within Sydney's massive commuter catchment. The ABS calls it a part of Greater Sydney, based on commuting patterns from what I understand. These are not far flung rural towns, the train service should be better.

VALLEY HEIGHTS, 77km from Central, is another quiet station serving a small collection of houses. It is largely in its original condition: two platforms, a footbridge over the highway, no lifts, a heritage brick waiting room and a brick store room. Some nice landscaping but little shelter. (1/2)

There is a massive boom going on in St Leonards! I count at least three proposals 50+ storeys and several shorter, in various stages of the planning process. These are taking advantage of new state planning rules to revise up heights to allow more housing near the Metro. 💪

Updated plans released for the OLYMPIC PARK Metro over-station development. The office tower has been replaced with apartments, now 3 towers of 45, 34 & 27 storeys, commercial/retail podium and thru-site arcades. This is just one of the exits. The other will just be a small building and landscaping

WARRIMOO, 74km from Central, is a quiet station serving a small number of houses and shops. It has two platforms with a footbridge but no lifts - there's wheelchair ramps for crossing the highway but not for the station. The brick building is a slightly more "modern" style with a curved end. (1/2)
