We didn’t have much luck with the sweetcorn in our community garden due to the weather, however, we did manage to grow a bit of glass corn!! Check out the amazing colours!😍 What a great feeling for your wellbeing to be eating hot buttered popcorn that you grew and nourished from a single seed. 💖💚

Our CEO Steph did a firewalk last night raising money for @leedsmind.bsky.social . Not only does she run Sodit but she also works with other mental health organisations. She’s a real mental health superhero in my eyes!! Check her firewalk - obviously she smashed it - go Steph!!! 🔥 ❤️

Trick or Treat! We’ll have a treat please! On rainy days we stay inside in our nature group & use Nature’s treats for creative projects. It’s great to still feel the benefits of nature on our mental health & wellbeing whilst inside. And it’s so lovely to see people’s pride in their work. 💚

Last month we headed into our garden with magnifying glasses to observe flowers coming to the end of their lives. We found a new worlds everywhere we looked! New shapes, textures &patterns - the art created by nature. It quietened the chatter in our heads and we got to feel better for a bit. 💚

So - we’ve been quiet in the social media world! Life seems to have been bashing all our team over the head! But we are back and ready to jump in our DeLorean to share all the awesome stuff we’ve been up to recently. We hope everybody is as well as can be and enjoying the nicer autumn days. 🍂🍃🪾

We had a stowaway in our Natural Connections group this week! Poppy the kitten took a ride to group in her mums cat back pack. How could I say no when I could see the whole groups’ mental health soaring!! So she stayed for the whole session and amazingly we did actually get lots of work done! 🐈💖

Wonderful end to our Wellness Planning course today! We all brought home made food & BBQed in our community garden. I’m so proud of all the Women who have worked so hard. Bravely sharing trauma & mental health struggles, connecting through lived experience. What a beautiful end to the course❤️. 

A hot one in our community garden yesterday. Made a lovely bouquet of hydrangeas for reception and practised making mini bouquets in spice pots, we’ll be doing these in Tues group. Purple peppers are finally looking very purple & yummy red toms peek out between the green. Our veg is flourishing.❤️

Lots of work on Wellness Planning today thinking about wellbeing & what we are like on an okay day. Our brains love making us feel as if we are always ill & never have better days, so it’s really helpful to look back & see that it will end & we will feel a bit better. Early warning signs next week!

Surrounded by wildlife during our Natural Connections session today! What a lift for our mental health to see all this beautiful life in the garden we created, I think our garden always makes you feel better - even if it’s just for a little while. The healing power of nature. 💚

Phew! Humid one in our garden today but didn’t stop two of our group members painting up our skip found fences. Look how smart the entrance looks now! Also we had a visit from a Gatekeeper butterfly & a Large Skipper. First time we’ve seen them, so thrilled with all the wildlife we are attracting.💚

Each of these flowers was grown by someone who may have been struggling with the idea of there being a tomorrow, somebody who wanted to stay in bed & hide that day, somebody who had to push harder than ever to get on the tram to get to group. Nature & connecting really does help mental health 💚

Was taking a picture of a tranquil pigeon blissfully sunbathing. The second I pressed the shutter he turned into fluffed up giving me a right eyeball pigeon! Definitely not blissful! It did make me & my group laugh & I hope it gives you a smile. I do think it’s so important to find the smiles! 🙂

Some astounding work by one of our Sodit group members. Art helps her when she’s battling intrusive thoughts or hypomania, I’m so glad she has found the thing that can occupy her mind and get her safely through to the other side. This really demonstrates the power of creativity in mental health!

We have reached the point in our community garden where we are able to start filling our group/counselling room with cut flowers. I love seeing people enjoy the arrangements & feel so proud of all the women who have sown seeds & tended to every plant. Just so much joy & so much more to come! 💖

We worked on grounding techniques in Wellness Planning group today. Using our senses to pull ourselves out of ruminating heads & into the present moment. I’ve just had 20 in the garden looking, touching, smelling and listening. And I feel better! This grounding stuff really works - give it a try! ❤️

Just some little lambs running to get milk off mummy for anybody who needs a mental health boost this morning. That little waggy tail can’t fail to bring a smile to my face! 🐑

A wonderful Natural Connections group today! Our first lily has bloomed in an explosion of the reddest of reds, Veronica reach high for the sky, the garden peonies are glowing pink & our little bee orchids have returned! Another good day for nature & a great day for our mental health & wellbeing! 💚

Getting vegtastic in our garden! Been munching curly kale & peas, rhubarb crumble is being made & cauliflowers are soon to meet cheese! Our group is a safe space for women to discuss mental health with others (if they wish to) but also a space to escape life for a bit too. I treasure it so much. 💚

Look what I was lucky enough to see the other day. I was on a walk and it was grey and raining and I was feeling a little glum. Then suddenly the most beautiful sunlight appeared and made the world glow and a magical rainbow appear. It made me feel hopeful - I hope it does the same for you too! 🌈

Today in our Natural Connections group we broke up a crowded Sempervivum to create lots of miniature worlds in dishes. Such a peaceful morning & all the leftover pups got planted in the green roof of our bug hotel. Good for nature & good for our mental health - you can’t beat green wellbeing!! 💚💚💚

A lovely day of firsts in the Sodit community garden today. Our first Strawberry (was yummy!), our first Sweet Pea, our first Nasturtium and our first perfect rose not nibbled to death by garden monkeys. How wonderful to be able to say that we have the first of many, many good things to come! 💖

Been making sensory soothing boards for our counselling rooms this morning. The sensory strips have a super strong grain to them & stroking them whilst also observing the patterns is a great grounding activity when anxiety is kicking in. Teddy bear for effect as he thinks I’ve done a grand job! 🧸👍

We are leaving magnifying glasses out in our community garden as we believe one step closer to nature is a step closer to wellbeing. Hopefully they’ll encourage people to take a closer look & spend time mindfully observing. We’ll see come Tuesday….I know nothing in the world will keep me off them!

Outdoor anxiety work at Sodit yesterday - poor Angela is feeling dreadful! It’s so helpful to get people to identify their symptoms - that’s half the battle won! Next week we’ll be looking at how we can relieve symptoms and regulate our nervous systems. Thundercats are fight/flight teaching aid! 🤣

Got mindful with our Oriental Poppies yesterday. WOW! How such colours burst forth from that seed head! The black star splash of the plant’s heart, beautiful purple growing like coral up the pink. There is no red like the red of a fresh poppy. A mental health lift we can carry with us for days. ❤️

Working in the Sodit garden on Saturday and could hear ducky kerfuffle in the river. Mummy was making the ducklings have a wash! So here’s a super clean duckling! They had to cuddle together to recover from the bath trauma. 🥰 Nothing like duckling pictures for a Mon mental health boost! ❤️ 🐥 🦆

Super busy day today in Sodit HQ preparing everything for the goody bags for our Wellbeing Festival. All got a bit overwhelming so thought I’d take a mindful moment with one of our very thoughtfully donated mini candle sets. Not one lighter in the entire building! No mindful moment for Chrissy 🤣🤦‍♀️

We’ve been mindfully looking at Dandelions. A world of oranges & yellows, glowing moons of unspent wishes, & twisty blooming textures. This gave us a break from our mental health stuff & we all know how much those breaks help. So - go, bend down and really look at the next Dandelion you see!!! 🌼

Sometimes we have to go above & beyond in our jobs! Currently sat playing with hundreds of fidget toys to make sure they are perfect for our Mini Self Care Kits we’ll be giving out at our wellbeing festival on Thursday. I get all the hard jobs - I really am a trooper! 🤣 (having best time of life!).
