A huge thank you to everyone who has sent notes of goodwill, support, or prayer over the past week since I shared my breast cancer diagnosis. It has meant more to me than I can say. Thank you all for reaffirming that we stand together to protect our rights and freedoms.

This year was one for the books! So far this campaign has taken me to 40 counties and well over 100 events across our great state – from kitchen table conversations to packed listening sessions, from rural towns to city streets.

This is me and my brother, Aaron, in 1963. While I no longer make trips downtown to see Santa Claus, Christmas still brings me awe and wonder. May your day be filled with peace and joy, and may you be surrounded by loved ones this holiday season.

Within a week we traveled all across the state. From Camden County to Hendersonville with a few stops in between, we discussed the importance of a Supreme Court that protects the rights and freedoms of all North Carolinians.

I am grateful to the North Carolina Association of Educators for endorsing me for re-election. Public school teachers and administrators are doing a tremendous job under very challenging circumstances, and they often don't get the recognition or appreciation they deserve.

Last month I joined Pullen Memorial Baptist Church to talk about the role of the church in protecting democracy. It was a pleasure to visit with everyone and discuss the importance of our Court. Thank you for having me!

Today, I officially filed for re-election to the Supreme Court! Upholding my oath of office to rule without fear or favor has been my guiding light every day on the Court. I am grateful for the opportunity to ask the people of North Carolina to elect me to a second term.

This Thanksgiving, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and thanks for my family, friends, and supporters.

When I was elected to the Supreme Court in 2018, I brought with me three decades of experience as a civil rights attorney and a deep belief that the Court must protect the rights and freedoms of every North Carolinian. This belief still drives me today.

This is not who we are as a nation, and it’s not who we are as North Carolinians.

Before he passed, my brother served 10 years in the Army. I saw firsthand his dedication to serving his country and the promise that it was founded on – that all are created equal.

This weekend I spoke to a room of fired up Democrats in Wilkes County! I continue to be inspired by the stories from dedicated individuals across the state who are working hard to organize their communities, show up for each other, and harness their political power.

When I served in the majority on the North Carolina Supreme Court, the court held that extreme partisan gerrymandering violated the state constitution. That ruling was rooted in the principle that voters should choose their representatives—not the other way around.

On this day every year, alongside the mourning, I also remember the unity, strength, and heroism of ordinary Americans on September 11, 2001. I was working just blocks from the White House that morning as the nation watched the events unfold with disbelief and terror.
