Since minimum unit pricing was introduced in Scotland in 2018, the alcohol death rate has risen massively more in England. While England's death rate is 29% higher than it was in 2018, Scotland's is essentially the same.

Alcoholic drinks, along with fruit and fish, are the only food and drink category to have got cheaper, in real terms, since the start of the cost-of-living crisis. Beer has got slightly more expensive in real terms since the end of 2022, but wine and spirits remain at late 2022 prices.
