A lot of the people doing the heavy lifting in terms of Palestine solidarity are Irish artists. A lot of the lawyers involved in defending Palestinian solidarity are Irish lawyers. Needs further ethnographic study, beyond the obvious reasons re this level of artistic and lawyerly solidarity.

When the Italian fascist state committed genocide against Libyans, it used starvation as a weapon. It was so pervasive it came to be colloquially known as ‘shar’ or evil. Until now, in Libya we refer to hunger as shar/ evil, such is the intergenerational trauma of famine. Famine is man made evil.

All famines are man-made, all famines are political. Historians of empire and humanitarianism have known this forever. Gaza is not starving, Gaza is being starved, by Israel, and this starvation is enabled by our government and by every other government that does not step in to force food and aid.
