The news: some people's houses are so cold they can see their breath! Of all the places I have lived in NZ, there may have been three where this wasn't the case. The one I'm in now may be one, or maybe winter hasn't been cold enough yet.

I am quite sick of waking up at 3am every morning. There is no need to be awake for three more hours. I begin thinking about work and in an effort to stop that I begin scrolling.

It's hard to get everything into an 800-word piece. One thing that got left on the editing floor is duck hunting. It reduces waterbird numbers, stresses birds which compromises their immune function and health, and brings waterbirds, hunters and hunting dogs into close proximity. Very bad idea.
