As soon as I hit “post” I realized I’m being so hard on TMNT because of how poorly designed the Spider-man set was, and TMNT had the misfortune of being teased right after. I’ll still probably be turning my Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy deck back into a Katilda and Lier deck.

I don’t know what it is about this set in particular that makes Universes Beyond feel like a bridge too far. And I like TMNT! Up til now I’ve been a UB defender, but this set has me thinking of ways to remake my UB Commander decks so my MtG shelf looks like less “slop.”

Worth noting that the other deck I got from that set of precons was N’gathrod, which I then turned into a Phenax deck because I was in a Theros campaign. Turns out the easiest way to get me to play any other game is to tell me “hey it’s got D&D in it!”

Got back into Magic after a nearly two-decade hiatus by buying the Baldur’s Gate Commander precons. Firkrag was the first one I got. Eventually used it as a foundation to build my first deck from scratch, Edgin. Just took apart Edgin to rebuild a juiced-up version of Firkrag. The circle of life!
