Research from #CornellILR assistant professor @merrickosborne.bsky.social found that individuals in a morally diverse community tend to believe that the community’s norms are looser. In turn, norm violations are more accepted, and there is a reduced willingness to police transgressions.

Civil responses to disrespectful behavior remain the best option, but in a variety of contexts – from hockey fights to the workplace – experiments showed that people view an uncivil action or comment more leniently when performed as retaliation rather than instigation. @merrickosborne.bsky.social

Just finished talking to students about why the humanities are even more important in this age of AI. Efficiency isn't always the most important goal. Reading carefully and knowing how to think critically is valuable on its own--even if that takes longer.

I am thankful that I got to talk about these papers in tandem. They feed off of each other by crafting a stronger framework for implementing EFFECTIVE equity efforts.

I know I am late to this, but I had an AMAZING time watching Katie, Jacinth, and Nina present their work. Seeing their talks renewed my curiosity in hierarchical dynamics—and how important it is for us to understand the experiences of people lower in the hierarchy.
