Born on this day in 1893, my great uncle, John Cole. John served in the Royal West Kents during the Great War; he survived but not with all his limbs. The 1939 Register notes his occupation as a Small Holder. He married Edna Ward in 1921, and they had two children. John died in July 1971.

Peseshet, "Lady Overseer of the Lady Physicians,” who lived under the Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt (possibly Fifth), c. 2500 BCE. Her "Overseer" title strongly suggests other women physicians were practicing at the time.

In December 1941, the extermination camp at Chełmno was established. It was the first of the Nazi camps that was 'purpose-built' to enact their genocidal policy against Europe's Jews. Chełmno's purpose was to murder the Jews of the surrounding area and the Łódź ghetto.
