One year ago today my last surgical drain (the absolutely detested one in my back) came out. I was drain-less for the first time since October 10. It was so nice. It still took two more months to be ready to teach again but it was a definite turning point.

Say what you will about the entire media universe being sequels & remakes but the sequel they made a couple years to “A Christmas Story” is genuinely so good. Today was pajama day, a last-day-before-winter-break tradition at the school where I teach for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately it was also 75 degrees.

I’ve long thought the sci-fi of any given era can give you a good sense of what people were scared of. I’m up to at least three shows in the last few years that put a character through extreme isolation. What does that say about us? About how social media has backfired?

There’s so much that’s straight up evil but I think what bothers me most on a personal level is just what a horrible, petty, childish human being he is.

So in my district, contractually my type of classroom has two paras as a baseline and then if any students have 1:1s, then you have extra paras. This year I have four paras. Three were out sick today.

I was today years old when I found out Jake Sully from “Doctor Quinn” (like his fictional stepdaughter who was in “Disaster”) was in a Star Trek. Plus in one of the Alien Nation TV movies.

It is safe to say I was not prepared for that Pluribus cameo.

I got a Thanksgiving gift card from one of my students and y’all it came and I am so happy. This is amazing. I am *wearing* a weighted blanket and it is delightful.

The last movie my paternal grandpa (who started my dad on Star Trek who then started me) saw in the theater. We saw it at the El Capitan in Hollywood before Disney bought it. It was SO LOUD (which was good for him; his hearing wasn’t great by then).

Also I’d like to point out to people, young folks have to live in this hellhole too and live with consequences so a show of “maybe we can aspire to better” is kind of sorely needed. Instead of a steady diet of fighty reality shows and anti-hero dark dramas.

It took me a beat to realize they new #StarfleetAcademy poster was putting the characters into a delta shape. I'm tired from moving!

I was either so tired my body didn’t have a choice or the hot bath I took for my backache (weirdly, the longest lingering issue from my *intestinal* surgery last year) relaxed me enough to actually sleep but I got 2 hours of deep sleep and an hour of REM sleep last night. Thank goodness.

It was a very Monday Wednesday. So much so that I checked to see if it was a full moon. That’s *tomorrow*.
