Another day, another outage! If your paywall conversion rates dropped yesterday, you have an excuse! This time it was Apple's servers 😈 Honestly, I have a few funny / terrifying stories to tell working with Apple servers and APIs. It's really frustrating.

1/4 Apple Search Ads metrics are weird and can trick you. You get taps, you get installs. Apple says "Good job!". Other tools can show you fancy charts. Cool. But none of these fit my mental model. I don't care about the aggregate yet.

1/ When RevenueCat went down, so did revenue for thousands of apps. It was a reminder of how fragile billing setups can be - and for iOS founders, one of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make - how you implement it. There are two main paths for handling billing:

1/ 📱 Why no SDK is a big deal for mobile developers Most analytics tools ask you to embed SDKs, update your app, ship a new version, and wait for enough data to trickle in before anything useful shows up. We thought that was…not right.

Here's a direct consequence of the RevenueCat outage 🙁 Tbf It's not them to blame, it's AWS that fell, which is the best humanity's got. But this doesn't change the point Think 10 times before using a third-party service in the critical path of your application, like billing.

Smth we've built to learn who's actually paying us and when they renew, change plans, cancel etc. the craziest part is that all this data is coming directly from Apple

1/ Always test in production, kids See this tag on the screenshot? Unlike in iOS where the billing can be implemented natively easy-peasy 🍋🍋, for Android we use a third-party - Revenue Cat, which has tricks and custom behaviours to know about. #BuildInPublic
