Oh god all the different words for the family members in Japanese are so confusing. They distinguish between who is talking to who, so there's lots of different words. And then there's this weird thing, where the words for uncle and aunt suddenly mean grandfather and grandmother if you add "-san"

I finished the Korean to Japanese course on Duolingo. Just in time for them to downgrade the service even further where you now lose hearts (now called energy) regardless of whether you make mistakes or not.

I expected the most difficult part of learning Japanese to be all the Kanji... but it turns out that's somehow the easiest part?! I have never gotten a even a single one wrong so far. Katakana however is like 100x more difficult xD (But that's only because the course completely skipped over it xD)

Just stumbled across some fun Japanese etymology: ki / き / 木 means tree no / の is the possessive particle ("of the / [noun]'s") ko / こ / 子 means child So together this means: child of the tree That's what they call mushrooms (kinoko).

Japanese is so weird. There is no future tense and they use words like こんど which can ambiguously either mean "this time" or "next time". And of course Duolingo is bad and they don't accept the interpretation I chose xD

I recently noticed how similar Korean and Japanese are. The word order and the particle usage are almost identical. And there's sooo many nouns that are basically the same just with a slightly different pronunciation. So I have been doing Korean to Japanese on Duolingo for the past 3 days or so :D
