Say what you will about the requirements (I think it's actually narratively pretty neat), #Silksong sure has a masterful way of transitioning the player to Act 3. Absolutely in love with the way Team Cherry plays with the game systems to communicate narrative.

Okay, I got the clawline, and I really think that I love the feel of Hornet's kit so much because it's basically 80% of the kit I've wanted for Shael. I know grapple hook isn't exactly revolutionary, but Hornet's *feel*, the zip and flips, 🧑‍🍳👌 (Shael clip from 2024) #Silksong

Mobility is one of Hornet's greatest assets and part of what separates her from the Knight. This is every bit as much practice for the boss as it is punishment for losing. Obviously it's not the whole point, look at Hollow Knight. But I feel like it is likely part of the intent.

#Silksong theory number 2: The runbacks are designed to make you practice Hornet's movement. Longer runs requires advanced platforming mechanics to optimize, and the more you integrate, the faster you go. The desire to get to the boss faster makes you better at movement, and thus better at the game.

Elden Ring is like an actualized version of all the best fantasy games we've ever played <3

What is your all-time favourite video game? 🎮 🕹️ Elden Ring. The feeling of walking into Limgrave for the first time. The feeling of seeing Siofra River for the first time. The exploration, lore, world-building, art direction and ost has been my absolute favourite so far.

I'll revisit this when I beat the game (and I'm speaking to avoid spoilers), but Act 2's shift in narrative framing, structure of exploration, and player impetus feels an awful lot like ascending to the Altus Plateau. Could just be convergent evolution, but I love the connection I'm seeing.

I have a theory that #Silksong took structural inspiration from Elden Ring, which I believe beautifully combined the physical structure of an ascent with distinct Acts (4), each act shifting goals and gameplay while the player nostalgically (and literally) looks down on their past adventures.

I'm just enthralled by Silksong so far. Everything about it is as beautiful as Hollow knight was. You name it, Areas, Music, Boss fights so far are pretty good despite being early game. I mean damn i haven't really gotten that far yet because often enough i'm just taking in the music/Enviornment.

I'm glad Team Cherry gave me this little platform so I could get a preview of just how slick Silksong is going to be. An hour in and I'm doing these little flips all over the place.

I'm trying to raise my kids right: Early and Often indoctrination with Nintendo-platform games of every generation I can muster, local-only Minecraft (Survival, branch mines, the works), and a general rule that we don't purchase microtransactions. We'll see how it goes as they get older.

Silksong, man. Devoting seven years of your life to a single project, but you're having fun building on it that whole time, and there's no rush, so you don't mind. Such an ideal situation for a career in art. Reminds me of how the TOTK interviews described development for that game.

That is something that I've thought about, but don't have an answer for. I can say that, unlike Caligo, Gladius doesn't give the impression of having been a scrapped Elden Ring boss, at least not from its ID or how its data is structured.

Another potentially relevant point is that FromSoftware evidently retained the rights to Sekiro, whereas Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne are out of their hands and they had to actively buy back the rights to Elden Ring. As such, Sekiro may have been their most convenient IP to utilize.

Kind of a surprise, but also kind of not a surprise. Of all the properties to get an adaptation, Sekiro might have felt like an underdog in terms of popularity, but it has the advantage of a defined protagonist and clearer narrative direction. I don't know how to datamine an anime though.

This truly speaks to how awesome the revamped progression system in Bananza truly is. Your primary collectibles, in the vein of stars or moons in Mario, are used for optional upgrades. If you're good enough at the game, stuff like THIS is totally possible, and that is super interesting to me.
