RIP Pearl Paint on Canal, New York Central on 3rd, and now, Kremer Pigmente on West 29th. I could have sworn that a friend worked at a tiny Golden Artist Colors retail space in Alphabet City in the 90s (10th Street?), but I can't find any record of it. Photo: Sarah Kate Kramer for WNYC

If you were concerned about Kimmel, here's another for you… Journalist Mario Guevara has been detained for 100+ days, ironically arrested as he reported on a "No Kings" protest. The Trump-Vance admin just issued an order of final removal, to send him to El Salvador—where he fled from 21 years ago.

Roy Stryker was head of the FSA’s photo-documentary project during the Great Depression. Negatives he liked were selected to be printed; those he didn’t were marred by a hole punch, which left black voids in place of hog’s bellys, industrial landscapes, and the faces of farmworkers. (Atlas Obscura)

“Those who tell you ‘Do not put too much politics in your art’ are not being honest. If you look very carefully you will see that they are the same people who are quite happy with the situation as it is… What they are saying is don’t upset the system.” Chinua Achebe to James Baldwin (1980)

I’m watching Alien Earth, where Timothy Olyphant plays Kirsh, the synthetic chief scientist. He has zero empathy because he’s a robot so he watches the mayhem unfold with a completely unperturbed affect. This week I wish I could do that, instead of being wracked with anxiety.

So on Monday the President of the US said that he believed that the "lesser" crime of domestic violence should not be counted in crime statistics. In 2025. Not a big deal. And nobody pushed back on this remark. My god. Alice Neel, "Peggy" (1949), oil on canvas.

Meet SPECTRA, the reflective eyeshadow that exists in dual-reality
Here at THE UNSEEN Beauty, innovation lies at the heart who we are as a brand and people. We want to reveal to the world what it cannot see for itself — to reveal the unseen. And one of the ways we do that is through SPECTRA Eye Colour, a versatile eyeliner & eyeshadow pigment.

all of this makes total sense when you recognize that “freedom” here means the freedom to dominate those you view as your subordinates and “tyranny” is when someone threatens that “freedom” or worse, when those subordinates try to claim power as political equals
add a skeleton here at some point
