I love ordering from @mzspress.bsky.social. I got Spirited Away on Blu-Ray and the BFI Classics book on Eraserhead, but with it I got free stuff: The Art of Twin Peaks magazine, a popcorn bucket (my fifth!), a Room 315 keychain from The Great Northern (iykyk), and two heart-shaped lollipops!

Oh man, just saw the news about the great Gerry Conway. For a guy who did as much as he did, I feel like he's kind of underrated in how important he was to the Bronze Age. He wrote just tons of great comics. I really liked his era of Spider-Man. Far more obscure is the Cinder & Ashe limited series.

That's a shame. I hadn't thought about the site in years, but in its heyday, it was my preferred home for online comics discussion. I was very active on its Talk@ forums (usually making an ass of myself), and it indirectly gave rise to The Outhouse, where I was briefly a member of the comics press.

I'm not seeing what's "scary" about this.

A very astute (and upsetting!) piece that touches on four scary cultural trends: 1) The demand for spelled-out moral clarity in stories 2) A growing inability to understand different types of narratives 3) The "customer's always right" version of fandom 4) The growth of fandom as a social identity.

This movie aired on VH1 in the US. I totally watched the whole thing, but this was all I can remember. I think about it every now and then. Film and television was trying to shoehorn [spoiler] into everything back then, but nothing was more blatant than this. It was crazy living in those times.

Sir David Attenborough could never bring this level of insight to this movie.

Mr. Singer, like every right-thinking East Coaster, ranks Twizzlers way above Red Vines. It is good and correct to do so. Also, those are my go-to movie theater candy (despite my saying that, the Mrs. is correct about what #1 should be).

She really defined the look of "my" DC. Those great 80's DC pre-Vertigo books. Swamp Thing. Animal Man. The Question. She gave those books a certain "feel" that made those stories so visually sophisticated. She's a legend and an unsung hero of comic books.
