A brief update on the UK Human Rights Blog about the Court of Appeal's decision to overturn the injunction preventing the Bell Hotel from being used to house asylum seekers (and some comment on why it is a good decision!)

Not a legal comment as such but this looks unsatisfactory from a policy perspective. It suggests that the political tactics of encouraging protests & whipping up fear, even if unjustified, can affect the decision (even if only of "limited weight").

An interesting challenge to police in false imprisonment by parents - themselves coincidentally police - accused of abuse and arrested.

Palestine Action co-founder wins permission to challenge ban

There is a risk that this will get missed over the summer, so just to flag up this important call for evidence on human rights and the regulation of AI from the Joint Committee on Human Rights (and deadline for response is 5 September) - committees.parliament.uk/work/9220/hu...

I've tried to test AI's ability to produce an output that matches reasoning according to rules and principles (I.e. the underlying skill behind legal issue spotting). It's dreadful at it (cf chronologies and OCR where it's much more useful). AI is simply not remotely capable of doing this justly.
