Pressure to sack rate is very sticky from college to the pros. Burrow's rate has always been disastrously high. It's not that the offensive line doesn't protect him, it's that Burrow refuses to get rid of the ball. And he's gonna miss basically three full seasons because of that.

Last season, the Commanders caught 59.1% of the 88 contested targets they saw as a team, per PFF. This season, they've caught 40% of their CTT and are on pace for 127.5 CTT -- that number would have led the league in 2024. Only a two-week sample, but the windows appear to be getting tighter.

Cam Ward has taken 11 sacks on 75 dropbacks, per PFF. With MNF still go to, his 32.4% pressure to sack rate ranks third highest among 34 QBs (min. 10 pressures). His 50.8 comp% is the worst among QBs (min. 30 dropbacks). It's early, but this is a rough start for a QB who may have been overdrafted.

Joe Burrow was a clear outlier when it came to pressure-to-sack rate, and players who exceeded a certain P2S% in college but still thrived in the NFL. That said, he's awful at avoiding sacks, and it looks like a fatal flaw even with the gaudy passing totals. Now it's going to cost him 3+ months.
