After a one week break, I'm resuming my #VanDerValk viewing shortly with the second series opener from Wed 29/08/73. I also not no fewer than three ITC film series on Anglia the same evening.

Joanna Dunham guest starring in #VanDerValk . She played his wife Arlette in the Euston Films version later on. Also one of two #BrianClemensThriller stars as well, the other in this episode being Patrick Allen.

The part of it I remember clearly from watching it in 1973 is when the record player gets knocked during the fight & you hear Bartok with a loud scratch over it as Drew flies off the landing & then his death stare at the end. Eeek! #BrianClemensThriller

"Send for Tom Patterson!" I think Saturdays were made for #BrianClemensThriller , so I'm treating myself to another classic mystery later on. Armed with my Tizer & Hula Hoops it's back to 19.05.73 on ITV, for an episode that doesn't appear to have aired at all in its original form in the US.

I think the very first budget VHS tape I bought was a Channel 5 release of The Prisoner for £6.99, with the episodes 'A,B & C' & 'Free for All' on it. The reason being Channel 4 had broadcast a hideously edited print of 'A,B & C' which ruined the story. @simoncoward.bsky.social might remember this?

1st June 1996 - satellite channel Bravo repeated the Thriller episode "Death in Deep Water". For those of us who had only just discovered the show via the 4 episodes released on VHS this was the first "new" one we saw. Whether for that reason or not this has always been one of my favourites...

RIP Michael Beint (1925-2026). He played the butler Hawkins in the Thriller episode "One Deadly Owner" & while not one of the show's best-known actors he was the joint longest-lived having just left us at the age of 100 (the late Geoffrey Chater also achieved that distinction a few years ago).

Blimey! The Protectors, Jason King, & Van Der Valk all on the same evening in Yorkshire (TVT Wed 27.09.72). However, it is the exploits of the Dutch detective I'm going to be watching at 9pm this evening as he tries to solve another case in 'Blue Notes'. 🙂

Of the original broadcasts of Sapphire & Steel, I seem to recall starting to watch it & then it being interrupted by a strike? I'm not sure I saw it when it came back. I have vague memories of borrowing a tape from another fan of a story set at a petrol station, & time being frozen?

Aha! A reused prop. I wonder if the book is still around today? I expect it will just be another book title with that made-up jacket around it. #BrianClemensThriller

Well, I must have enjoyed it then as it has stuck in my head all these years, but like many things, it is one of those series I've just not gotten around to revisiting. Maybe the time is right now to think about looking at it.

I enjoyed #VanDerValk 'Destroying Angel'. Lots of boozing, smoking, some nudity, a Miss Whiplash, some dodgy 70s clothes & hairstyles, some nice location filming, DAF cars, Patricia Quinn from HHoH, & Mr Thurston (Clifford Parrish) from 'Someone at the Top of the Stairs #BrianClemensThriller.

Another #VanDerValk tonight for me, this time from Wed 20th Sept 1972. Here is the page from the YTV edition of TVT. Ace of Wands 'Peacock Pie' ep 3 was on earlier that day. A local rerun of Follyfoot began the previous Saturday, & there are lots of ITC series scattered through the week too on YTV.
