Lots to like about The Bone Temple, but it goes into that ‘never going to watch it again pile’, where films that delight in graphic depictions of torture end up. (Funny Games, Reservoir Dogs, Mandy). Watching it back to back with 28 Years Later was really a strange tonal shift.

Last night in Pasadena just as Blanket Forts (blanketforts.bandcamp.com) was finishing an amazing set — throwing me a skipping stone from the Octatrack, some ripples to kick me off.

We drove 45mins in each direction to see a film in the 80s. I’d drive even more than that to see a film in LA. You know what I can almost never see— Netflix theatrical. Seeing the new Knives Out was almost impossible in this A film market. Dweebs hate theatrical.

My lord. I think I saw this 4x in the theater in ‘97, and once more at home in ‘08. And tonight on 35mm. This will always be my favorite PTA film. Funny, tragic, over the top. John Lyons (casting director for the Coens) had to have had an affect on how brilliantly cast this film is.

Caught The Shining in iMax tonight, and it was if I had never really seen the film before. I know every line and every shot and forgot them all. Like 2001, this is an audio visual experience and not something you can reduce to memes, Simpson jokes, terrible documentaries. This is one woke-ass film.
