Sometimes the most radical thing you can do is educate normal people on complex subjects in ways that are engaging and digestible.

i think this MLK day the thing to focus on is the strategic focus and tactical brilliance of the civil rights movement and the way it was laser focused on a set of achievable goals

when you are petting a cat and the purr descends in register from “love it” to the louder slower “oh hell yes now that’s the stuff” purr, that is a blessing in this world

Just your periodic reminder that “trauma bond“ refers to the bond between an abuser and those they abuse. It does not refer to the affinity between people who have experienced the same trauma together; that is called “shared trauma”.

People who were actually enslaved believed that chattel slavery would end one day. I'm sorry but to me that suggests that you [who are not enslaved in 2026] can also imagine an end to the current horrors.

Sadly, there are many errors in the

and
@washingtonpost.com
obituaries on Colvin. Please read Phillip Hoose's award-winning Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice for more on Claudette's Colvin life and courage.

Friends, Claudette Colvin—the 15-year-old who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus in March 1955 & joined the federal case against bus segregation that went to the Supreme Court — died today at age 86. But there are lots of myths and mis-impressions about her. A short corrective thread:

Hospitals are putting off voluntary surgeries due to the MASSIVE amount of people coming in with flu and COVID cause they dont have enough staff and people arent getting vaccinated. Healthcare is a system. And when systems are overwhelmed people die.

White Americans keep looking to 1930s Germany for lessons on authoritarianism, but they ignore Black Americans who have survived it here. Slavery, Jim Crow, and racialized state violence are forms of American authoritarianism.

I too, miss the days back when the police were polite. At traffic stops they would say gentle things like “ma’am, your empty hand is a deadly weapon” before killing you.
