How often do you see an ichthyosaur fossil from this perspective? They are so frequently preserved flattened that it is easy to forget how massive they must have been. This specimen is at in the Evolutionsmuseet in Uppsala

All sculpins are cool, but some are even cooler than the mean. This is the grunt sculpin. Crazy head shape. Hangs out in empty barnacles and wriggles bright red pectoral fin rays to mimic barnacle feeding. Weird scales on the belly. Lots of dissertation work here. Who wants a PhD?
