For the first time in 3 years, there is a Winter Weather alert in the Bay Area. Heavy rain will continue (already 1-3"+!) through the mid to late week, with storms bringing enough moisture and cold air to allow for SNOW to fall in the highest elevations of the Bay Area. @kpixtv.bsky.social

A series of storms are set to slam California over the next several days, bringing the entire Bay Area 2-4"+ of rain and the Sierra Mountains 6+ FEET of snow through the mid to late week. Timing it out and breaking it down, all the details on @kpixtv.bsky.social from this morning:

Today is the last reasonable day for travel to/from the Sierra until at least Wednesday PM, potentially Friday. Even along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe, 3-4 ft of snow is expected. The weather service warns of MAJOR travel impacts Monday and EXTREME impacts Tuesday. Drive during today's sunshine.

After some MUCH needed rain, drier weather returns starting Thursday and continues through Saturday. By Sunday, another powerful storm will move over California and bring widespread rain and mountain snow. Daily rain chances continue through late next week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Although they're still dealing with snow and chilly weather through the end of the week, New England (and much of the central US) will feel warmer weather next week. However, the western US will continue to get some much needed snow and low elevation rain over the next week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

I always think it's so cool to see a defined center of circulation from a storm swirling right off the San Francisco coast...it almost looks like a hurricane! But obviously not nearly as powerful. Scattered showers will continue overnight before drying out into Thursday. @kpixtv.bsky.social

After over a month rain-free, a storm is FINALLY moving over California this evening! It shouldn't create any flooding, but bring much needed rainfall. Plus Sierra snowpack is meager, so over a foot on the highest elevations through Wednesday afternoon is fantastic. Get ready for more next week!

After some early morning fog, it will stay comfortable all day with passing clouds and highs in the 60s. No weather issues to worry about for the big game! Although it's slightly cooler and cloudier, this weekend is still going to be absolutely gorgeous across the Bay Area for any outdoor Super Bowl activities. Santa Clara will stay in the mid to upper 60s while SF will be in the low 60s - still 5-10° warmer than normal! Enjoy it while it lasts...

12 PM Bay Area earthquake update: 21 earthquakes spanning magnitudes 2.5-4.2 occurred in San Ramon this morning between 6:27 - 9:03 AM. It triggered a 4.6 south of Tres Pinos at 9:29 AM. It's been much quieter across the Bay Area since then...but did you feel it this morning!? @kpixtv.bsky.social

The full snow moon technically peaks at 2:09 PM PT, but it doesn't rise in San Francisco's skies until 5:34 PM! Because the sunset will coincide with when the moon rises, it will look especially large when it's low on the horizon early this evening! Send pictures my way, you know I'd love to see!

20 states are under a state of emergency right now, with a band of snow 8-12"+ spanning from New Mexico through New York over the past 36-48 hours. Ice has been the most crippling impact, with .5-1"+ accumulation already. Those without power, please prepare for prolonged sub-freezing temperatures.

A powerful winter storm is currently making it's way across the country, bringing widespread treacherous travel. Over a foot of snow is likely along a band from OK - MA. Ice will be the most dangerous issue, from LA to NC. Newest model runs are backing down on the higher totals across the Carolinas!
