A tale of two VERY different weather stories across the United States today: cold and snowy east, warm and sunny west. Growing up in Chicago, I'm used to Lake Effect Snow...and I do miss it at times...but right now I'm feeling pretty grateful I live in California😅 @kpixtv.bsky.social

Since Northwest Indiana saw so much snow over the past 24 hours, I had to give my parents (who live there) a big shout out on CBS News 24/7! But the snow and cold won't last much longer - you'll be back in the 50s/60s with plenty of sunshine later this week and into the weekend!

Much drier conditions will arrive tonight in the wake of today's storm system. The coast will still be churned up, with beach hazards tomorrow and coastal flood advisories into the weekend. Highs will gradually warm through the weekend - before more rain chances mid next week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

The storm earlier today packed a punch - bringing a 93 mph wind gust to NorCal, and 60+ mph gusts to the Bay Area. It also brought 1"+ of rain to the North Bay and Santa Cruz Mtns, with a stark cutoff between 1"+ areas and the rest of the Bay Area that only received .01-.25". @kpixtv.bsky.social

Opposite sides of the country are dealing with similar weather impacts: The Pacific Northwest will continue to deal with an atmospheric river through Friday, bringing more winds, rain, and snow. New England is dealing with clipper storm 2 out of 3, also bringing more winds, rain, and snow.

It's been a lovely weekend across California, but BIG changes are on the way as our next atmospheric river approaches. It'll be cooler tomorrow, but the storm won't arrive until late Tuesday. It will be mostly beneficial rain, but gusty winds up to 50 mph early Wednesday will be the biggest issue.

When is San Jose's average last 80° day? Yesterday - October 28th. But the average last 80° day in San Jose in 2025 is 17 days later than in 1970. The climate is changing, it's our job to realize that and figure out how to mitigate the negative effects it has on humans and the planet.

High pressure will continue to bring sunshine over California and much of the western US through midweek, allowing highs to warm to 5-10° above normal. A weak front will cool us down by around 10° Thursday (back to normal) before warming right back up into the weekend! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Melissa officially made landfall in western Jamaica early this afternoon, losing a lot of energy as it did so...but it's STILL a category 4 hurricane with sustained winds 150 mph. It's going to impact the Caribbean through the midweek, bringing catastrophic devastation. @kpixtv.bsky.social

It's going to be heating back up across the Bay Area by as soon as tomorrow...temperatures inland returning to the 80s, with 70s even closer to the coast through Wednesday. Other than a slight cool down Thursday, there's really no weather issues to worry about this week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

If you have any plans later this afternoon/tonight, you should be good to leave the umbrella at home! By Sunday morning, more light showers will move over the North Bay, pushing south towards Monterey by Sunday evening. Max rain totals will only be .01-.5" so don't expect anything too impactful.

TIMING OUT THE RAIN: It will continue to dry out from north to south through the early afternoon. Although an isolated North Bay shower is possible, you shouldn't need an umbrella for any evening plans. But keep the umbrella handy, because by tomorrow another round of light showers will arrive.
