Wonderful news for Texas public schools!

As students across Texas head back to school this week, their districts are grappling with how to comply with new laws. Senate Bill 12 restricts several DEI initiatives in Texas public schools, while Senate Bill 13 introduces new library policies geared toward restricting books.

Sometimes, the truth about censorship doesn’t come from public meetings. It comes from inside the system. Teachers, librarians, and even district staff may witness policies or actions that violate intellectual freedom but fear speaking out. Let’s make sure we honor their courage.

Man o’War was recently removed from FBISD libraries due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the Texas Penal Code by the “committee”. Taken as a whole, the book is NOT considered harmful or obscene, yet it was removed from all HS libraries.

FBISD removed Boy Toy—a thoughtful, age-appropriate novel on trauma—without clear review or justification. If based on discomfort, not policy, this risks censorship and legal issues over students' rights. Transparency matters. @txfreedomread.bsky.social @freadomfighters.bsky.social
