Let me tell you the story of the pretty much the worst thing I ever did.

"Touch grass" is too soft. It’s an insult for the chronically online, but it’s not enough. You need to go outside and fall on your face. You need to feel gravity. You need to remember that the ground is hard and you have to pick yourself up.

Everyone remembers the Game Shark. Infinite lives, zero gravity. It was magic for an hour, then it ruined the game. When you remove the possibility of failure, you remove the value of the success. We’re doing the same thing to creativity right now.

If you want to know if something is real, ask yourself: "If I mess this up, will it hurt?" If the answer is no, you’re bowling with bumpers.
