Vermont desperately needs more nurses, but the Trump Administration’s actions could prevent students from pursuing careers in this critical field. I’m suing to block the U.S. Department of Education’s unlawful rule. This is the 50th time I’ve had to sue the Trump Administration.

I am pleased that with today’s settlement, Franklin Foods made a commitment to ensure proper treatment of dairy and soy waste products onsite. Vermonters take pride in our pristine lakes and rivers, and protecting surface waters from contamination is crucial to the health of our environment.

All Vermont Medicaid providers must engage in compliance monitoring and promptly self-report errors. Enforcement actions, like the one announced today against Northeast Kingdom Human Services, protect the integrity of the Vermont Medicaid Program, which thousands of vulnerable Vermonters rely on.

A federal court has again affirmed that President Trump does not have the power to impose these tariffs, and it is overwhelmingly working people and small businesses who have borne the cost. He should stop breaking the law and start working to make our country more affordable for working people.

Vermont’s environmental laws protect clean water and other natural resources, which are such a valuable part of living here in our beautiful state. Compliance is important, and today’s settlement with Long Falls Paperboard is a good outcome that will result in site cleanup.

As your Attorney General, I am committed to carrying forward Vermont’s legacy of leadership against Big Tobacco and the growing nicotine and vape market addicting the next generation. My office will continue pursuing enforcement action against companies that profit off addicting our communities.

Imposing funding conditions on programs that feed the most vulnerable Americans is illegal and cruel. It also keeps with a theme of this Administration of violating the Constitution and federal law - regardless of the cost to Americans - to further the President’s extreme social agenda.

The Trump Administration backed away from enforcing fair housing laws in the midst of a housing crisis, and its actions violate federal law and state sovereignty. Vermont has its own antidiscrimination laws and the right to enforce them.

Unfortunately, the Trump Administration is spreading fear throughout our communities in its implementation of the President’s immigration enforcement agenda.

Today I sued the Trump Administration to stop the latest round of illegal tariffs. Only Congress can levy taxes, not the President. This latest scheme is an attempt to circumvent SCOTUS’ recent ruling and the limitations on the President’s authority established by the Constitution and Congress.

Today the Supreme Court ruled in favor of our multistate coalition declaring President Trump’s broad tariffs unconstitutional. The Court held that IEEPA does not authorize the President to impose tariffs - a tax on Americans.

Again and again, the Trump Administration illegally terminated grants created by Congress in violation of our Constitution. President Trump wants to stifle renewable energy generation because he is living in the past.

For the past three summers, severe floods have devastated Vermont communities by destroying homes, damaging businesses, and washing out rural roads and bridges. We can expect these disasters to continue – and we must prepare by building more resilient infrastructure to protect our communities.

Vermonters know that environmental justice will make us safer, more resilient, and better equipped to prepare for and respond to climate impacts. We have experienced three back to back summers of flooding, and this will likely continue in the coming decades.

Meta’s business model is built around addicting teens and children to their platforms using algorithms and deceptive practices that exploit the vulnerabilities of these youth. I brought a lawsuit against Meta to stop these harms, and now I’m supporting other states in their lawsuits against Meta.

In this country, we have a right to privacy when we go to the doctor. The Trump administration’s disregard for this right is not only illegal, it is a violation of the public’s trust.

Today is the 3rd anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned decades of precedent affirming our right to abortion care. That same year, here in Vermont the majority of voters in all 251 towns voted to enshrine our right to abortion in our constitution.
