Listening to this new album from London band Ulrika Spacek while commuting home along dark rural highways was a treat. It’s slightly experimental, downbeat, alternative electronic psych-rock, but understated. I like it.

They’ve updated Xikipedia where it can now store data locally so your feed doesn’t reset every time you close it. This is so simple, but I am finding it a good replacement for other endless scrolls.

This was really weird and wonderful.

Slo motion ski jumping over Popol Vuh music- what’s not to like? (Great recommendation!)

Listening to the new album from Ratboys. It took me a couple of tracks to get into it, but it grew on me. The sound is melodic and loose indie pop rock.

Now listening to new (officially first) album from Geologist. Part of his description of the album reads: “a rippling songscape in which his hurdy gurdy gives and takes multiple forms, an epic electro-acoustic textile of many colors cut from the life and times of Brian Weitz”

I really like this aggressive, moody, experimental noise. I hadn’t heard of this band, but I’m into this new album.

My listening habits trend towards new stuff, but this album of Brazilian Indie Rock from 2005 is great.

I really like this new album of ambient/drone/experimental music. The track titles work together as a poem, with the final line, “Blues For The Great Refreshing Earth Bodhisattva.”

I definitely plan to catch up with this one this week. It’s a great day to buy from Bandcamp! (This is a #BandcampFriday where the platform passes all revenue from album sales directly to artists.)

This is a great idea. It plugs into the same “slot machine” dopamine drip as scrolling anything else, but you’re getting a slightly-tailored feed of definitions, and concepts. Neat trick.

I have been listening to this album repeatedly this week. It’s so melancholy and pretty. Perfect bleak winter music.

I like being semi-anonymous on BlueSky, so I debated whether to share this interview I did about mental health recovery and peer support. Also, I’m horrified by my misattribution of a Mariana Alessandri quote, and how much I say “like” and “um”. But I care about this, and it was fun to record, so:

I haven’t had a cigarette since September, but I want one every damn day. I don’t want emphysema, lung cancer, or some other chronic condition, and I hate the way it makes everything smell, but oh how I miss that dizzy wave after the first inhale, and the satisfyingly angry sense of self-harm.

This album feels like a return to that and it is gorgeous! The music feels light and pretty, as do Emily's vocals, but the lyrics are about heartbreak, injustices and trauma; with just the slightest rays of sunshine in between. It's absolutely beautiful, from end to end. Highest recommendation!

“In the quiet of the new year, we will let our old dreams go…” Gentle folk music with sad lyrics is my emotional kryptonite, but in sort of a good way?
