This afternoon I'll be leading a debate on the call for public ownership of bus services. It says a lot that those who want to keep public transport in their own hands, generating profit for themselves, have nothing to offer except childish name calling.

Bus boss tells MSP to 'get on his bike and leave transport to the adults'
Let’s be blunt. Patrick Harvie’s knowledge of transport appears to be restricted to whether or not he needs to fix a puncture on his bike.

Only 37% of Parisians owned a car in 2016. Anne Hidalgo used that insight to pedestrianise Paris, plant trees, and shrink roads. Locals love it. Suburban drivers… not so much. The city’s still transforming. And it’s working. 🌳

UK media is so wild. It is tough to properly convey how shockingly deceptive this article is. It's desperate I guess but a lot of people will still read this, and trust it bc it's coming from what looks to be a reputable media outlet.

World leaders meet for the UN Ocean Conference this week in Nice, France. This 2024 photo shows a sperm whale struck dead off the coast of Nice by the exact maritime traffic they're debating. This is a common occurrence! 📸 Greg Lecoeur (1/3)

Not my favourite kind of meme - but it's on point! The constant pandering to far-right voters is unbelievable. The lack of conviction and values. In many ways Starmer's policies have been remarkably close to Trump's (immigration, social & welfare cuts, etc). Via

"What changed? Most riders still use personal bikes, which account for 60% of the increase since 2022 (helped by all those cycle lanes). But in the past two years the use of rental-electric bikes has increased four-fold."

There's a strand of toxic optimism out there that really gets to me. I don't think you can healthily generate optimism out of thin air. To me it springs out of action. Action gives us back a sense of control and from there a sense of optimism. It's well possible that action stems from pessimism 😅

‘People have been pushed to the brink’: welfare cuts spark fear in Blackpool
Already one of the most impoverished towns in the UK, withdrawal of support has left many unsure how to cope “It’s not very helpful really,” says Owen Sandford, 27, of the government’s spring statement. “I understand they’ve got a tough job, but we’ve got a tougher job trying to survive.” Sandford is in receipt of universal credit and has been applying for work – but he is struggling. 🗼Parisians just voted to kick cars off 500 more streets. VOTED. There is no environmental conspiracy here 😈 66% of Parisians voted in favour of cleaner air, quieter neighbourhoods and cities built for people – not cars. 🔹 10,000 more parking spots gone 🔹 Nearly 700 streets will be car-free

Perfected picture of the situation on climate action - captured in Brisbane. As cyclones grow stronger, are we sleepwalking into disaster? Climate change is set to wipe 50% from the global economy between 2070 and 2090 (Institute & Faculty of Actuaries). Climate action is no luxury.
