Putting together the backstory for one of my current PCs (Annika) after playing her for a bit. I've realized that most of my lady characters are small-town girls who leave home to find themselves. D&D by way of the Hallmark channel. No tragic backstories, but a lot of mediocre ex-boyfriends. 😀

Our OSE characters are setting up new holiday traditions for the Winter Festivals in Illmire. My drow, Silhouette, plays the role of The Queen of Shadows--kind of a cross between Krampus and Mare Llwyd. (She punishes bad children, but can be bought off with gifts of beer and wine.)

Wiard's Night Terrors! What a delight! An apple orchard transformed into a haunted attraction park with a wonderful fair-like atmosphere. Five different haunts, including a hay ride and a 3-ad clown experience. Cool theatrical set-pieces. Super friendly admin staff.

I am proud of Disposable Future, but I will be happy when it's done and I can move onto projects that don't revolve around dystopias.

Disposable Future is my cyberpunk game, but it occurs to me that it's also heavily influenced by 1980s "Mid-Apocalypse" movies like Escape From New York and a hundred minor imitators (Bronx Warriors, City Limits, etc.)

I very much wanted Disposable Future to be a "serious, straight-faced" game. But my basic nature got the better of me in some places.

I knew I was close to total burnout this past summer. But with some distance, I now realize how VERY burnt out I was in August. And while it didn't ruin Gencon/vacation for me, it certainly affected my ability to engage and enjoy.

Making big strides on the art for Disposable Future. I see no reason I shouldn't be able to get this book done by my October deadline.

A more sedate Gencon for me this year. I feel I spent more time off-site than on. That's not a complaint. I had a very good time. It was also evident how many of our friends no longer attend. I need to assess some things for 2026. I still managed to purchase more books than was strictly wise!

A golden ballroom is the kind of thing built by someone who doesn't plan on leaving. 😐

I will hand it to the Hilton. The first morning there, the manager came around the Victory ballroom and asked what they could do to make our experience better. And then they DID THOSE THINGS. So kudos to them #gencon
