Something else to understand about what is happening across the government is that all of those cancelled contract "savings" were funding thousands of non-profit/NGO employee salaries to do work the gov couldn't. Tens of thousands of people who are also at risk of being laid off.

The firing is clearly illegal under a 2022 law. The administration is saying that they don't need to follow the law because they, and not the courts, get to decide what which laws are constitutional. It is no different than their saying that they, and not Congress, determine spending.
