mtgstocks streamlined their website to make it look cleaner and i think it's a big downgrade. lighter rules, more white space, and subtle color indicator on price changes makes the page look smart and modern, but reduces legibility.👎 imo it's better to have sites that are ugly but functional.

the 9 card trend had me thinking about the 1996 ultrapro puzzle quest all day. 🧩 🤔 the completed chaos orb and black lotus puzzle could be redeemed for a couple hundred bucks. each had one ultra rare piece, with only a few known to exist. i just bought the top center piece to use as a token tho. 🤮

i love how the existence of powerful colorless lands in eternal formats exerts a deck building pressure that restricts how many colors a deck can play. fetches and duals have long made mana fixing far too easy, but not being able to run these lands makes being 3+ colors have an additional cost. 🤎

this is the finished look with paint, stain, and varnish. the smaller one will be done in the same style. it’s hard to tell here but the edge on the top shelf is actually a matte yellow.

i still want an official explanation for this. 🔍 🐟 i went to the mtg wiki to see if there had been any new information and the only relevant citation is me asking the exact same question two years ago. did they not want to print a bant merfolk commander that wasn't typal? that's all i can think of.

there is a class of cards that occasionally get run in casual edh which are both notorious power level indicators that will make people target you and also inherent card disadvantage that many decks aren't properly built to accommodate. i frequently advise people to cut them, mostly for the latter.

if you were one of the folks looking forward to building a weird mono-color hybrid deck in edh this is your reminder that you can just already do that. they didn't change the color identity rules but the only rule you actually need is rule 0. people will think you're interesting and clever.

for the first time ever, i drew the card insight yesterday during a game of commander and there was no green player at the table. 100% -> 99.9%

posting about this magic the gathering card today for literally no reason at all

the kids are roasting me on reddit but i’m curious if anyone here disagrees. i played during the early years of magic and shivan dragon was always just a cool looking dragon. 🐲 why did it become iconic? why is it still remembered? cool looking dragon.

it took me way too long to realize that the menu includes "og favorites" because "og" is short for "olive garden" rather than "original gangster". (please don't make fun of me for being at olive garden it was not by choice)

to me, edh is wacky racers. one player is going to put a jet engine on a little red wagon. another will put tank treads on a fighter plane. those are both funny and desired outcomes, but in order for them to exist you also need to accept that somebody else will put a jet engine on a fighter plane.
