i hadn't seen this old rc ruling until @wachelreeks.com read it in the most recent command zone episode. it's impressive how succinctly it nails the core problem with changing hybrid color identity rules from a format diversity standpoint and it absolutely still rings true almost 20 years later.

a lot of people dislike the "source material" cards because they just have low-resolution screenshots with chunky text slapped over top, but i also feel that removing the upwards sloping edges of the card info footer was a poor choice. the flat edge looks very sterile and low effort.

in constructed (edh) shrines are very parasitic, which makes it easy to ignore them if you don't have a dedicated deck. 99% of shrine lists are currently 5 colors due to the lack of options, but additional shrines will open up the possibilities for 2-3 color decks. which i find more interesting. ⛩️

this dude flew a bit in the cartoon, but he is most recognizable in his more austere walking posture, and you can tell the art department struggled with that. you don't really want a big flying creature to be standing around...but i kind of don't feel like the card arts really capture his likeness.

this video has a lot of amazing stuff, including more 8th edition test prints (the ones i like) than i've ever seen in one place, but these legions test prints are what really stood out to me. i wasn't aware that the test fetches even existed in the wild.

i don't have much of a platform so my feedback can't garner any real attention but i feel like the notion maro is putting forward on his blog that most edh players are unknowingly running hybrid cards outside of color identity is pretty easily refuted by literally any amount of actual experience.

if you're in a band comprised of three members with the exact same role it's pretty messed up to give one of them lead billing and not even mention the other two by name. it's like calling destiny's child "beyoncé and the humans".

in maro's podcast today he does a great job of explaining how changing the color identity rules will better suit hybrid mana while saying practically nothing about how changing those rules would better suit edh. imo this is the crux of the conflict. the edh rules should be based on what suits edh.

in magic putting cards back into your library is known as "restocking" but i really think it should be called deck thickening. 📚

in an artifact heavy red edh deck i feel chaos moon is actually pretty playable. gauntlet of might half the time is still good, and the downside of making your mountains into wastes and giving your creatures -1/-1 can be minor. surprised it's only in 769 decks. plus everybody loves counting! yay! 🔢

people say hybrid mana cards should be allowed in edh decks of either color because that's the mechanical intention. just like mdfcs, colorless artifacts, split cards, 2brid cards, phyrexian mana, off-color activations, and flip walkers. you can cast all these in a blue deck! that's the intent!! 🙃

they make this shit look so good in the game. 👀 just slap a full honeycomb on an apple...or a steak...or whatever...but then naive people will think it's a great idea only to find out the hard way that honeycomb is mostly wax and it tastes weird and now i've got sticky gunk all over my teeth. 👎

by my reckoning, desert nomads from arabian nights is the oldest card that hasn't ever been reprinted but which could reasonably be reprinted. the only other candidates are either racist, contain weird references, or have banding (looking at you camel). 🐪🏜️

when eoe released i couldn't believe eumidian hatchery was only 20¢! it's relatively inaccessible, hard to reprint, and the floor is just super high. after north american eternal weekend it seems like the jig is up. i generally don't treat cards as investments but i'm glad i grabbed a few playsets.

i've said this before, but the best thing that could happen to noggles in lorwyn eclipsed would be a creature type errata. edhrec currently has 292 horse typal decks, while noggles have approximately 0. 🐴 unfortunately other than morophon there are no legendary horses with an izzet identity.💧🔥

out of every card in magic the gathering, i wouldn't be surprised if emrakul has the highest cast vs. resolve ratio.

with the new dual-nature of lorwyn eclipsed, where shadowmoor exists simultaneously in swaths across the plane and creatures can cross over to become their shadowed twin, it will be interesting to see how some beings previously exclusive to day/night experience the transformation of the other side.
