It costs the City of Ottawa $465/person each year to serve new low-density homes, over & above what it receives from property taxes/fees. On the other hand, high-density infill such as apartment buildings pays for itself plus an extra $606/person each year. Sprawl costs, infill saves.

Building supportive housing for those who would otherwise be homeless is the right moral thing to do. It’s also the right financial thing to do, since it actually saves public money. It’s a no brainer, so don’t let wrong-headed ideology get in the way. Tell your leaders to build supportive housing.

Why I’m voting for Valerie Foushee: I like Nida, personally. But Valerie Foushee has credibility amongst her peers, good committee assignments, a 100% rating by the League of Conservation Voters, and she brings home federal $$$. NOW is not the time to send in someone who has to start from scratch.
