I always bristled at those App Store screenshots that weren’t screenshots but were images of phones with marketing text. But now that my app is in the Store, the screenshots look shit so I see why people do it. Oh yeah, and I’m in the App Store, baby!

Dunno if this is neurodivergence but I once got asked by a kid, about my laptop, “Does it run apps?” My brain shorted for a sec because it had to recalibrate. I asked him if he meant little square icons in a grid. And then tried some lame-as thing about “app” being short for “application”.

If there is a sketch about this I will not watch it, but I’m suddenly wondering who was the first person to be like “Hey can you not chew with your mouth open? We’re not animals.”

Something I've realised over the last few years of freelancing is that people think "urgent" = "I need an answer to this question now". That's not urgency, that's panic, and I don't want it in my WhatsApp messages.

After emailing a customer with sight loss, it's just dawned on me that I should give a quick reminder of the context up-top, especially if it's been a few weeks. Many of us quickly scan an email thread to remind ourselves. Doing that with a screen reader is a nightmare, so this could be useful.

I watched Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes last night. Each time I go into those films thinking “this’ll be silly”. And then they do something that makes me get all invested. I think Kingdom might be the 2nd best of the reboots, with the 2011 being #1 obvs. My memory of 2 and 3 is hazier.

22 years ago — for a short time — I ran a proto social network from my home PC, using port forwarding and DynDNS. It was built with ASP & Microsoft Access, as was the way. I’ve just achieved the same thing today, but with Cloudflare Tunnels, Django & PostgreSQL. Except now it’s in my living room.

Today in Things I Hope Don’t Turn Out to Be Things: I have 2 new enclosed, stainless steel litter boxes. As I write this, Bailey has just used it and I could tell what number she went by the noise it made on the steel. Next up is Roscoe, the fussy boy-duchess I essentially bought them for.

Next up in Things I Thought Were Going to Be a Whole Thing But Turned Out Not to Be: Changing the toner on a laser printer. In many ways easier and less messy than ink cartridges. Apart from the malware I have to install and the fact it doesn’t have proper paper guides, I enjoy my laser printer.

Technical observation: I hope I'm not the only one who uses the phrase "pour some sugar on [x]" when Git-committing changes to a user interface that make it look all nice.
