Since there's discourse about Bluesky vs. X and other sites on here again, I'll repeat that it was a mistake for the Biden administration to keep posting on X after the Musk takeover b/c it meant media, etc., stayed on the site and legitimized it

What if we just let Canvas die?

They hacked Canvas during finals week. This is why the faculty need a secure ballroom.

We need to have a long conversation in higher ed (and ed in general tbh) about our dependence on proprietary software platforms, especially learning management systems

Instead of running my asynchronous summer course via Canvas, just gonna print out copies of the lecture slides and assignments and mail to students, correspondence course style

Pretty confident that institutional responses to the Canvas hack will somehow involve a lot more work for faculty

Persuaded by my quick trip to ISA, which has involved reconnecting with colleagues, co-authors, and friends --- many of whom I initially met via the old Twitter --- to be more active on here again, so you can expect LOTS of forthcoming hot takes (or at least links to new papers and things like that)

Maybe it’s fitting that I found out when I opened my email to find the QR code to get my ISA badge today, but I am SUPER EXCITED and grateful and humbled and maybe even kinda surprised to share that I got tenure!!!

It's been a minute since I posted (for lots of reasons), but I'm in transit to #ISA2026 for a quick trip (shorter than planned, for other reasons, but I'll be there today and tomorrow) and hope to reconnect with some of y'all if you're around
