To register what I've been reading: "Black Canary - Best of the Best" is another great King story, this time told by another star storyteller in Sook. Interestingly, King's recent interests seem to be stories about family. Parents and children. A beautiful family drama disguised as a fight comic.

The Arrowverse was the purest form of live-action superhero storytelling of our generation, and handled crossovers better than both major film franchises (and their attempted streaming fare). Of COURSE it was a soap opera with capes. I miss the CW.

"Helen of Wyndhorne" is gorgeous, all throughout. It perfectly mixes King's sensibilities with the dreamy fantasy work of Evely and Lopes. It's incredible work. King seems fond of working in trilogies, so this is also a fascinating companion piece to his "Black Canary" and "Wonder Woman"

The greatest thing about Cloud Strife as a character is that, despite his image of cool guy, he is actually a genuinely insane weirdo for most of the story, and before that, he was kind of a loser. Characters comment on how his mannerisms are strange. The "gap" is what makes him work.

"Uncanny X-Force" It's everything I have ever loved about Marvel in one package. Damaged characters navigating a dangerous world, trying to do good. Big stakes, big swings, big consequences. So good.

Self-destructive characters. People with good intentions who have this one fatal flaw that makes them always sabotage themselves or take these wrong, weird turns that create great drama. A world more fallible than that of DC. But that was all before Disney and the MCU, of course. Well...
