NOC was delighted to host a marine research roundtable onboard #RRSDiscovery, organised by the British Embassy in Lisbon. 👥 The roundtable helped further the dialogue between UK and Portuguese researchers to explore future collaborations and to discuss the UN Ocean Decade.

🌊 Excellent that parliamentarians are taking the #Ocean and the critical role of data seriously. Ultimately sustainable ocean observations are so important and having them must be, as they say, in our national data objectives.

Sir David Attenborough says it so eloquently. The biggest threat to security and prosperity is the challenge of a changing climate. We need to make sure that message is heard by everyone.

Being an RSE isnt always just sitting at your desk. This week I aided in the deployment of the RAPID 26N WB2 sensor mooring for monitoring the change in the AMOC by optimising the tools used to verify and log the sensors going on to the mooring, all whilst aboard RRS Discovery.

If we are going to respond to the challenges of climate and biodiversity loss 🌊 #ocean #science cannot just be for the privileged few. Thanks WestP&I for supporting widening access to research.

🌊 marine heatwaves may sound strange, and who cares if water heats up a little bit? Well we all should. Everything from the weather we encounter (goodbye Storm #Darragh and good riddance) to marine ecosystems are sensitive to small changes in ocean temperatures. So we really should care.
