Created an account that lists each interest as a separate post: @picker.foryou.club Help seed it by liking the interest posts that match what you use Bluesky for. When new users join and like one of those interests you will become one of the curators of their For You feed.

Custom feeds can mark some posts as pinned. For You uses it for system messages like "Welcome to the feed" and such. But AppView ignores that flag when it hydrates the feed and the client app does not know which posts should be displayed as pinned. This should fix it: github.com/bluesky-soci...

Ok, Bluesky does not pass the user's selected interests to custom feeds like For You. But what if For You has it's own interest picker - show a list of canned posts that name an interest: - art - gaming - tech - atproto ...

If you use a self-hosted PDS then the For You feed was not working very well for you most (or some?) of the time. The issue had to do with the authorization token that For You gets from the Bluesky's AppView. For self-hosted PDS users the token has the "aud" value set to "did:web:api.bsky.app" ...

If your non-Following feeds (For You, Discover) are stuck showing you content in one language then check whether you have Content Languages setting set to that language. To fix it and see content without the language filtering: 1. Go to Settings > Languages 2. Uncheck all "Content Languages"

I have been running this test for more than a month and finished it today. The statistically significant result is that users are 2.6% less likely to press "show less like this" 🎉 - 5.7% more "show more" interactions: 41,425 -> 43,795 (+2,370) - 5.2% fewer "show less": 169,848 -> 160,938 (-8,910)

For You is exposed to the internet through a VPS running on OVH. OVH is telling me that they detected a DDoS attack and started applying filtering. Not sure what to make of that. But happy to have OVH handling that.

Started an A/B test for this idea. On each feed load For You uses a random sample of 500 likes out of you recent 5000 likes. The idea is to make your recommendations more diverse.

For You will be down for 10-20 minutes. I want to change my RAM speed in bios from 4800 to 6000 in case it helps the feed load a bit faster. For the last week I've been running Gnome from the fresh Ubuntu install and I need to go back to MATE.

The results are in. Statistically significant user-level metrics: 0.4% more users like something in the feed 6.7% more users hit "show less like this" The question is: are 17,008 extra likes worth 2,647 extra "show less like this"? Probably not

For You will be down for ~1-2 hours as I replace the system drive. The Kingston NV2 drive has been freezing up the computer - often for a minute at a time and sometimes indefinitely until a manual restart. I'm replacing it with a Samsung 990 Pro, which should be more stable.

For You was down for 3 hours 40 minutes. The cause: the system SSD (Kingston NV2, SM2267XT) controller hanged and never restarted. It has been hanging periodically but always recovering in less than a minute. But this time it hasn't recovered. It looks like I will need to replace the system drive

Added the "corater decay" parameter to the feed as described in the quoted thread. Values: - 0 has no effect. - 0.2 discounts second most recent like by 20%, third most recent like gets discounted twice by 20%, etc. - 1 - only their most recent like has any weight.
