It was great to speak to MPs yesterday about the work we’re doing with @missingpeopleuk.bsky.social to ensure missing children get the support they need. Thank you to all MPs who came, especially Michelle Welsh MP for hosting and @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social for pushing this forward in Government.

Sajid Javid made us his first council to visit when he became Secretary of State at CLG, and took a genuine interest in the CSE challenge and racial associations. Much to his credit. Philp was decent enough to say he couldn’t help after their govt cut funding support to CSE trials. 1/2

No one was interested when they further cut outreach support funding. Patel came and said she knew we weren’t the people responsible but shouted at us anyway. All very odd that they’ve stumbled on the idea of an inquiry just months too late to implement it. 2/2

Great to be at @dcfc.co.uk today with @childrenssociety.bsky.social working on the next steps for Derby Poverty Commission’s child poverty strategy. Really important work happening locally in Derby, and feeding in to the government’s Child Poverty Taskforce.

From today, women effectively work for free until the rest of the year due to the gender pay gap. It’s two days earlier than last year because the gap has grown for the first time since 2013. We must end the undervaluation of women’s work for good.

So pleased to be here in Sunderland today with The Children’s Society. This is a brilliant announcement and it’s great to see Mayors like @kimmcguinness.bsky.social to take bold actions like this and make a real difference to children in the North East.
