This week's Micro_Mondays project involves the use of key switches to toggle the segments and right decimal point on a Texas Instruments TIL312 single-digit seven-segment LED display, circa 1982. I soldered it to some perf-board and broke out the pins to make it easy to connect to my Arduino.

I really enjoyed streaming my Boy Meets Girl set last night at Fauna, a set that was requested by the lovely and talented Elly Elyran (@ellyelyran.bsky.social). The set began with 3 songs that they were involved with, and then we checked out their first 3 albums, made between 1985 and 1990. [1/2]

More 3D printed glow-in-the-dark goodness. Everything was energized using a 395 nm ultraviolet flashlight, although any blacklight will also work.

Since I forgot to upload it last week, here's what my 3D printed glow-in-the-dark key caps look like in the dark. ^^

This week's Micro_Mondays project uses four key switches and an 8-channel relay module to simulate a four-button speed switch on an average desk fan or pedestal fan. The circuit and its sketch can easily be adapted to any 3-speed fan or 3-way light fixture. Power supply is 5 volts DC.

Last night, I played two hours of Elton John and Billy Joel, starting with the songs that made them famous: Piano Man and Your Song. Then I played my favorites from 1970 to the present, ending with Circle of Life and You're Only Human (Second Wind). Truly, a piano-man-tastic set. ❤️

This week on Micro_Mondays, I'm trying out one of the breadboard-friendly keyswitch assemblies I soldered together recently. The keycaps, which my brother 3D printed for me, actually do glow in the dark, and I will show a picture of it glowing when it gets darker outside.

The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X. I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!). So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.

Eight months have gone by since my first DJ set in a long time at Fauna, and I've made a lot of friends since then, in addition to Ember and Nuku. But now, I feel like everybody's become more than just friends -- they've become family to me. ❤️

For my Paul Simon set on Friday, I began with the full 1986 album Graceland (a family road trip staple), and concluded with "St. Judy's Comet" and "Father and Daughter", the latter two songs being like my personal lullabies for Fauna. The set was both fun and relaxing. ❤️

One thing I find very annoying on Bluesky is how people try to advertise their product on a post that has absolutely nothing to do with what the advertisement is about. It happened to one of my closest friends twice this week, and it makes me that much less interested in the advertiser’s “product.”

There is nothing more satisfying than restoring old electronics back to good working order, especially 1980s tech. My father sent Elly home with a microphone that he bought in 1981, and it had a scratchy switch. So I sprayed some contact cleaner into the switch, and now it's as good as new. (1/2)

As of today (April 29), I have been a DJ at Fauna for exactly 8 months, which is 2 months longer than any other venue I have ever been a DJ for. Every minute that has passed since August 29, 2025 has been time well invested, and I’m looking forward to having spent an entire year at Fauna. ❤️

This week on Micro_Mondays, I'm demonstrating a 3x3x3 LED cube using some leftover LEDs and resistors from an upcoming project, a project that involves the four keyswitches on the right. My goodness, soldering all of those LEDs was a pain in the patootie. 🥵

Had a lot of fun playing my bar-themed DJ set last night. Tamara and I served up rounds of drinks on the house, and everyone seemed to have had a good time in Margaritaville (Moonlight Rollerway). It's only 12 PM Eastern, but I don't care -- it's 5:00 somewhere. :3

In a story that I'm working on as a gift for Fauna, I've described a situation where Rin first encounters Royal, a handsome gelding owned by Ember. Initially, Rin exercises caution towards Royal, yet Royal is very curious about Rin. This GIF from Tenor most accurately describes Royal's curiosity.

"I'm going to Graceland." This afternoon, my vinyl copy of Paul Simon's 1986 album "Graceland" made it to our house safe and sound. The album in cassette format was a family road trip staple in our 1987 Ford Aerostar, and I bought the CD version during my 8th grade field trip in 2000/2001. (1/2)

A few days ago, I mentioned wanting to begin sharing my Arduino, ESP32 and Micro:bit projects when things start to slow down after Easter, but at the time, I wasn’t sure exactly when that would be. I was thinking potentially next Sunday, April 19th as my starting date. 😎

Last night’s 1960s set was a gas at Hitsville USA (Moonlight Rollerway). It was so groovy that people were getting together and grazing in the grass, and when all was said and done, we all sat on the dock of the bay. Can you dig it? 😎

Just finished one of two tracks that I am dedicating to Fauna and everyone who works and/or lives there. I hope to have both tracks ready by May 1st for FurAffinity, and if I finish the second track sooner, you all will be the first to hear both tracks at Moonlight Rollerway as soon as April 17th. 😃

I've recently taken a liking to the thought of simulcasting streams from Moonlight Rollerway to multiple locations including Fauna. It really feels good to know that there are people out there who are enjoying what Nuku, Murdock and I have to offer. ^w^

When things slow down after Easter, I'm considering reviving via Bluesky, my Arduino Weekends series, which was formerly posted on FurAffinity. The new name will be Microcontroller Weekends, because I have a BBC Micro:bit and several ESP32 boards in addition to my Arduinos. (1/3)

I used to enter contests so that I could afford to rent a stream slot for one week, because I was expected to provide my own streams at my former jobs. These polarizing contests usually gave me chicken feed, while others earned well over L$1K. This led to burnout and of course made me want to quit.

This is the Alesis SR-16, a drum machine that's been part of my music setup since July 2025. I use it for its drum sounds and as a drum sequencer for many of my covers and OC's. The SR-16 was first introduced in 1990 and is still being made. Photo was taken using a Fujifilm Finepix S1500 from 2009.

I think it's safe to say that I'm finally over this cold. 😁 Though it would have taken a bit longer had Elly not been pushing me to drink plenty of fluids and increase my Vitamin C intake. 😂 Thank you once again @ellyelyran.bsky.social for helping me get through this cold. I really owe you one.

Had to block someone on SL yesterday, because they were annoying me by trying to tell me what to write in my fictions, and that I should write my fiction their way, all because they want me to comply with their "lore". Yeah, if I did things their way, then it wouldn't be my fiction anymore. 🤦‍♂️

About a quarter of the way through my set on Friday, Mixxx wanted to play what was originally in my playlist before two requested tracks, so I took Mixxx off of Auto DJ mode and added the tracks by hand. It was then that I discovered that it’s a lot more fun to queue up tracks manually. ^-^
