Grading day/conference prep day: a whole day in which I don't have to hear the magic words "6, 7." And yet they're in my head.

It's a little thing, but it's going around and turning the lamps on before students arrive and turning them off after. Especially after school - I usually do it before I sit down or do anything else.

Had the follow-up consult from this observation today, and apparently I'm the only teacher really doing small groups, so yay?

So I already knew today that our literacy consultant was coming in to observe my small groups (to give advice/feedback, not to evaluate), but surprise, our principal decided to come in and do an observation at the same time! Agh! But at least I was well prepared.

I’m really glad I wrote this. I’m really humbled by the response it’s gotten. Like I’ve stated, talking about your pain brings healing. Writing this has not removed my fear but it has eased my anxiety. I can breathe now that my pain has been expressed. Check it out if you can.

It's one of my favorite times of year!

WHO decided that one of the characteristics of Realistic Fiction is that the author doesn't use I, me, or my while telling the story? Can't a story be both Realistic Fiction AND first person?

I say NO to fidget spinners, but have had success with squishy cubes (generally quiet and don't roll around) and marble fidgets. I'm also very selective about who can have a fidget and when, which bothers some students (why does he get it and I don't), but it usually works out.

Last day of school is 6/12, so we've reached the point where I'm starting then and planning backwards.

Last week I took Mothers' Day weekend and mostly did what I wanted to do: hiking, buying and planting plants, reading. It felt great! And then Monday hit and I was Not Ready. So...today I'm going to finish my lesson planning and prep for Monday.

Took students into garden to measure plants today. Went over expectations and non-examples for carrying and using meter sticks. Went over what to measure and write down. Took away one meter stick before we even started.

I am so burned out on behavior issues right now. Including serious issues. I actually have a day off tomorrow, but I don't know that I can muster the energy to be ready for a sub! I had everything planned and mostly ready but...

"What did PBS shows teach you?" Mister Rogers taught us feelings are mentionable and manageable. Reading Rainbow taught us discovering books is joy. Sesame Street taught us learning through the kindness of community by way of our friends. Bill Nye taught us to observe wonder through science.

I was SUPPOSED to be creating and sending my class newsletter but I got to the Learning Snapshot part and instead of just putting in something general about our social studies topic I went and created a whole lesson?

It's also that day I hope you HAVEN'T experienced where you go on a field trip that's been scheduled for a couple of months and it turns out the event host changed the date and forgot to tell you.

It's one of those days where you have everyone clean up EVERYTHING off of the floor and then after they're all gone there is STUFF ON THE FLOOR AGAIN.

I'm at an educator wellness conference which is lovely but it's also in a casino which is a little jarring when I have to cross the gambling floor to go to the bathroom. 😂

Lesson learned: I used ChatGPT to create a word problems worksheet, and I did read it over before making copies, but I didn't read QUITE carefully enough, and one of the problems wasn't really what I wanted (and was a little confusing).
