Finished my reread of My Dress-Up Darling Such a good manga, even better the second time

Every day I wake up and think about how 2.5 Dimensional Seduction has nuanced thoughts about the nature of art and love that I genuinely haven't seen elsewhere in shonen manga, but no one knows it because it's hidden behind 1.5 volumes of cheap fanservice.

Coloured the gray details on the handrail with pencil, easy to apply and has a bit of a metallic sheen Really glad I did the edges as well as the surface, adds depth and makes a noticeable difference

My Dress-Up Darling ep 13 is incredible, quite possibly the best directed first episode of the entire Summer 2025 season.

The Kowloon Generic Romance anime isn't the original, and I do wish that it was the manga, but that might still be ok. I'm glad I got to see it, I'm glad it exists for those that prefer anime, and I think it's worth appreciating on its own merits. How very fitting.

In short, there are two pieces of historical context that I locked in on from the moment the Khara Gundam Show was announced, and seeing if it has something to say there has been my driving question. (To be clear, I don't know if the show ultimately answers it! Still gotta think it over.)

I guess it's fitting that Gundam Qux, the show named after a placeholder, ended up being mostly determined by the expectations each person brought to fill in the blanks.

I do think that part of the issue is that I've spent the last six months thinking of GQuuuuuuX as "an artifact produced by Studio Khara" and not "a television series" (let alone "a television series that needs to meet the expectations of a Gundam show")

I really hope I can be less bitter about this

I thought to be a Gundam fan implied to be able to appreciate big beautiful messes, but maybe it only implies being attuned to a specific kind of mess.

In the immediate aftermath of the show, I feel like the public conversation around it has made it harder for me to not only appreciate GQuuuuuuX, but the rest of Gundam as well.

I don't immediately have a simple conclusion or read on GQuuuuuuX ...you know what, I think that's good much to think over, though not right now

I think I realized why I focused so much on the reception to GQuuuuuuX over the last few weeks: I was desperate to share the Kira-Kira I saw with everyone.

New unfair hypothesis: maybe I'm enjoying GQuuuuuuX because I haven't seen any of the recent multiverse or meta-derivative works people are annoyed by Haven't seen Avengers Endgame or any Marvel since, haven't seen Star Wars EP 8 or 9 When I think parallel universes, I still think of Steins;Gate

The thing I'm finding fascinating and about the divergent reads and reactions to GQuuuuuuX is that I'm seeing them come from people with, as best as I can tell people with broadly similar ways of reading media.
