Flag waving is the simplest and by far the lowest indicator of patriotism. It does not demonstrate action for, or loyalty to country/population. Flags are often used as applause (as at state event) or insidious nationalism as the type demonstrated by Tommy Farage bullies. Flags are rags on sticks.
