for the record i also dont think there is truly "misogyny free f/f" either (this is what makes a lot of f/f textured). i'm using a broader concept here in this demonstration but not to condemn any of this as inherently misogynistic. rather that writing as negotiating misogyny becomes inevitable

there's a competing three way catharsis where sometimes there is a solidarity (the boy is a girl) and sometimes there is a compartmentalization (the boy is girled) and sometimes there is a pure negation (the boy, never a girl). all are much more interesting imo than "m/m is misogyny free romance"

this is why, imo, m/m work that is not nor claims to be misogyny-free is better able to grapple with its texture (same with f/f). i also think, paradoxically, one of the reasons m/m resonates with women readers precisely because *it is not* misogyny free. sometimes relatable or sometimes contained

"misogyny free m/m" can never truly be "misogyny free" imo bc (for most m/m made for such motivations) the bounds that construct and signal the "m" often set the distinction against "tipping too far" into being "f". where maleness is inscribes the limit against the woman. the boy cannot be too girl
