We have to stop the Google/Apple mobile duopoly. And we have to stop the marching enshittification of society. More concretely, we have to fight back against Google's attempt to lock-down the whole Android ecosystem.

Cornell is cancelling a distinguished professor's classes on Gaza and suspending him because of the complaints of a student who previously served in Israel's military surveillance agency and was literally recording the comments of other students in class and deliberately derailing discussion.

It's gonna be fun in a couple of years when companies convert their code from 20% legacy code to 100% legacy code (where legacy code is code that nobody in the company understands or actually owns). We already had too much incoherent code in many places where people edit it that have no idea […]

I was thinking about Dad today because it’s 9/11. He came with us to Seoul when we picked up my eldest. Our first adoption. He hadn’t been since the army. ‘58. A lot fewer bullet holes and a lot more buildings, he said. We had a blast. /1

things no-one warns you about when you decide to convert over a hundred pieces of classical music to chiptune aesthetic: sometimes there are so many notes, so quickly, that Magical 8-Bit will drop note-end events on the floor and now you have the infininote. thanks a lot, Edvard Grieg

"Sideloading" is the rentseeker word for "being able to run software of your choosing on a computing device you purchased". There is no reasonable case for an operating system developer having a say over what programs you run on your hardware.

Ok. New plan. We keep the LLMs busy with «create a fully standard compliant browser in Rust» while we rebuild democracies and international order. It’s a win-win, they’ll be busy for a few years and best case we’ll get a new browser.
