Anyone have an e-reader they like? Amazon will stop supporting library books on my 16 year old Kindle, and I'd like a replacement for an upcoming trip. I hate that tech is disposable, but 16 years was a pretty good run. Main constraint is that I'll pay extra to avoid ad-supported awfulness.

Retiring a climbing rope and didn’t want to throw it out. Didn’t like the first attempt so redid with a more interesting pattern. The initial pattern was the hard part, feeding rope into it (still needs adjustment) is the tedious part.

Significantly more work than I expected, tbh. Tempted to loosen up the pattern and give it some breathing room—but it's just so much work to feed all the rope through to adjust the pattern.

Still WIP, but *finally* adapted my line rendering module to WebGPU. Managed to salvage pretty much all of the logic from my old WebGL line rendering module. I know there's better algorithms and implementations out there, but I'm relatively content.

I was fine with it not arriving until after Christmas. I was worried 111 pieces wouldn’t be enough. I was worried it be sorta trivial with no wrong answers.

Can you believe that back in the day the recommended solution was not just to shut it down and turn it back on again, but to actually drop the entire thing six inches onto a hard surface in the hope that loose senators would reseat themselves?

Turn on the sound — this is how nearly every night sounds for me and my family. Imagine getting used to that, living, working, raising kids. A lesson the world didn’t learn from WW2: when you tolerate and appease evil, it grows stronger, and you won’t notice until it reaches your home.

Expanded it to work across an array of satellite tiles and added soft shadows. Softening shadows around the azimuth is easy because you just average samples (here, 16), and along the altitude is even easier because the horizon algorithm gives enough information to simply do a smooth fade.

The sun rising over Thor Peak, Auyuittuq National Park, Canada. It's using line sweep horizon tracking to compute ambient occlusion and physically accurate shadows together with relief shading, all packed into an RGBA texture. Pretty happy with the scanline algorithm, but the shading needs work.
