In terms of the game: Ember started as a pugilist because I wanted her to be recruited by Thancred. I was afraid of tanking at the time and I felt like pugilist was a more logical transition to what I really wanted her main class to be (rouge) than thaumaturge would have been.

Hard to say. Ember is a non-standard isekai that merged the souls, memories, etc. of both IRL me and the person she was before. IRL me cannot handle heat. Original!Ember was born in Garlemald, which would imply she can't handle heat either. But she grew up in Thavnair, so I imagine she adjusted.
