EU-CIEMBLY at @Democracy R&D 2025 in Brussels! The conference provided an inspiring space for reflection on the present and future of Citizens’ Assemblies, with a focus on research and practice.It explored the challenges and the ongoing evolution of deliberative processes across Europe and beyond.

Now we are reviewing existing citizens’ assemblies to learn from past experiences and improve our upcoming pilots. On 9–10 July 2025, we gathered experts at the University of Essex for the “Designing Intersectional Citizens’ Assemblies” workshop.

On 12 March, Wits University in collaboration with the Pan South African Language Board and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hosted a symposium on Linguistic Human Rights. Governmental stakeholders, along with postgraduate students discussed linguistic human rights in theory and practice.

Can citizens’ assemblies strengthen democracy and counter authoritarian trends? The CITIDEM project explores this through assemblies in eight EU member states and at the transnational level. With CITIDEM and EU-CIEMBLY sharing a common focus, valuable synergies lie ahead.
