Played Heroes Olden Era (it's been the only game I've looked forward to for some time). Almost 4 hours in and I think the game have extreme pacing issues due to the frequency in which it presents new choices to the player.

If I were to ask a student why Donald Trump is in office and they point to gamergate, I would gently suggest they broaden their perspective a bit. Because frankly, the narrative that the far-right movement started with gamers on a forum is sloppy thinking. I'd demand something more sturdy than that.

Indie developers are really funny. They don't need anyone else to tear them apart, they do it to themselves. The Silksong pricing discussion is one of the dumbest things ever.

One thing that stands out with the elder scrolls that I think they practically stand alone with (among the heavy hitters of fantasy) is the way they treat history. And I'm not really talking about the way they use unreliable narrators or conflicting perspectives or what have you.

You can break the entire promise of those AI game/interactive world-generators (like mirage or google genie) with one simple question: "Ok so what if I want to move that tree over there a bit to the left? How do I do that?".

Saving and loading cells now work, including spawning items into any given cell and having it register correctly. With a combination of spawners (designer placed) and cached entity lists (dynamically added/removed) I can save & retrieve items from a specific level trivially. #gamedev #unrealengine

People (devs, let's be honest) are envious at the Silksong devs because they had a good time making it for seven years. Like, why do some people even make games when they think it sucks so hard to make them? They wish they could have the same experience but they don't so they lash out, out of envy.

Tim Cain just put up a video where he talks about respec in games. For my game I'm very firmly not going to allow it because of the theme of the game. Though I'm thinking of giving a bit of leeway for the first three levels where you can rearrange any spent points until they lock in. #gamedev

Bow and arrow has been (mostly) implemented aside from a few things that need to be fixed. I made it so that projectiles have the arrow item as an attached payload so that it spawns the item on impact (works with custom enchanted arrows as well). #gamedev #unrealengine

I feel like there's an unspoken agreement between every horror writer (be it movies, books or games) that it's imperative to always make the second half atrocious, no matter how good the first half is.

My outlook was blocked because of "suspicious activities" after I accessed my email on an "unusual" location and microsoft refuses to help me solve the problem (and even blamed me for it in their support chat). 20 years of emails up in smoke after an *automatic system* (emphasis) made a mistake.

This idea that microsoft (among others) have that it's preferable to talk to a computer and ask it to do things is so such a bad idea. Personally, I don't want to ask a computer to do something and hope it interprets my intentions correctly, I want to instruct it to do the things I want it to do.

It's nice to see, as of late, that people come to their senses and realize that Fallout 1 is actually a horror game.

Enemies can now block and they respond to your actions through the same stimuli system as other AI states, though way more complicated where internal parameters are taken into account. Also added some movement to the character to make it feel a bit more dynamic. #gamedev #animation #unreal

Doing some pre-planning on the way that the NPC behavior works in the game. I've come to the conclusion that the behavior is split into two parts: immediate behavior (state machine-like implementation) and world behaviour (schedule, pre-planned).

Just did a google search for a problem I had and the google AI thingy (which I quickly scroll past anyway) said, no joke, "the following information is not relevant to what you asked for but here it is anyway [queue several paragraphs of nonsense]". Complete garbage.

The lockpicking minigame: You move the cursor and listen for the picking sound to get louder and the tumbler to start filling. The closer you are to the sweet spot, the faster it fills. If you click inside the sweet spot you can attempt to force the lock which saves time and durability. #gamedev

Uni is done for now and I have the entire summer to dedicate to #gamedev. I'm probably not going to post anything spicy soon though because I'm currently rewriting the framework for the game in C++. It's just plain placeholder stuff that's not very sexy.

I've been making a bunch of assets over the past year. I'm thinking of creating a (sort of) agnostic framework for the game in C++ this summer. Mainly to have a reusable thing for different projects that I can build upon over time Instead of rewriting or ripping apart the actual game later.

Both C and C++ requires a lot of typing.. C is vertical and C++ is horizontal. With C#, you get the best of both worlds.

Me: making a small tetris clone, playing around, having fun. Stack overflow: Your tetris clone may not be threadsafe! What if you were to work on that tetris clone with 50 other people? Why aren't every function in their own file? Have I ever told you why tetris clones are bad practice?
