Yote.Tech now (finally) lives in a proper rack. For the longest time, the router, switch, and UPS lived on the closet shelf and the server lived on a TV tray! 😅 Next up is a plex server upgrade, some network upgrades, and terminating all the house Ethernet to a patch panel!

So it took a bit longer than I expected (mainly due to other work getting in the way) but… I can now control Samsung TVs via IP without AMX’s driver! Feeling like an A/V Winston Wolf XD

Does anybody here have an idea what these breadboard style sockets might be called? Or where I could get a bunch? These are used on several PCBs around prototyping kits I have, and I have a project in the queue that might benefit from these...

I was trying to control a Samsung TV via IP Remote using an AMX controller when I wrote this. I got it partially working but was still working out issues when we shutdown for the holiday. My plan was to do research over the break to figure out how to control it without using the driver. [1/5]

I’m now off work till Jan 5th. It’s still crazy to me the campus just shuts down for 2 weeks 🤣

Today’s hyper specific A/V rant: it’s extremely interesting to see each manufacturers take on their ecosystem. We’re stating to explore Q-Sys a bit, and I was surprised to see there’s no direct way to update the firmware, you need to load a design and its done as part of that load.

This weekends unexpected home repair? My water heater crapped out. Luckily the tank is still in decent condition so I threw in new themoststs, heating elements, and a new anode in for good measure. A service and flush was on my winter shutdown project list, it just decided to up the timeframe 🤣

Had job offers for both CATV tech and a MRI coil repair job. The CATV job seemed more interesting and had better hours (or so I thought 🤣)

Starting to really (finally) trust my 3D printer and try printing an ergo mechanical keyboard from the Cosmos generator. Probably need to do a cheep build to see if I really like it and what I want/need in a more final build

Nothing like a nice work project win right before leaving for the weekend. I got our potential scheduling touch panels commutating with Office 365 for the next new building on campus. So now I can test the proof of concept!

We ran into a clearance issue for a ceiling mount speaker at work. My boss, jokingly asked “Dex, you think you could 3D print a trim ring for this?” Me: “What’s the speaker diameter?” Him: “uhhh. 13 1/4 inches” Me: “Yeah, I think so…” So yeah, having a large printer rocks at times 🤣

Digital audio torrenters; do you notice sometimes that torrented music has little micro-skips or occasional bursts of static in the middle of tracks? Is there something wrong with the files I’m downloading? Is it a problem with the source rip? Is it a byproduct of torrenting? Is it my audio player?
