Trump is a hell of a carny pitchman, I have to give him that. When a ton of people tune in, he's going to say he's sending troops to Chicago. Probably started the rumor he's sick or dead himself.

Trump and his greedhead cronies may get a big surprise in spite of their efforts to rig the 2026 election. They could find themselves swamped by a blue wave. Americans are wising up to the fact that Trump is turning the American dream into a nightmare.

As long as guns are easily available to crazy people, mass killings directed at so-called soft targets will continue. This is a fact. Countries where it's more difficult for crazy people to obtain guns have less shootings. This is also a fact. Do with these facts as you will.

BEHIND, by Bentley Little: As with most of this guy's wonderful books, the prosaic world slides into more surreal territory and then into the batshit horrific. Pirhanas in a backyard swimming pool? Check. A mummy in a Brentwood business building? Check. It gets darker.

THE ENDING WRITES ITSELF, by Evelyn Clarke: Clearly in the running for the best mystery novel of 2026 (it bows in April). A trove of tropes that mystery-lovers will love, right down to the dark and stormy night in its climax. Funny and scary. It will remind you of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE.

Watched ROGUE ONE with my wife today. We had a ball. Wish I'd seen it in a theater. It has what so many action pictures lack: a beating heart.

Rhett Miller's solo LP, A LIFETIME OF RIDING BY NIGHT, is really good. Miller leads the Old 97s. He's in good voice with this one. The lead-off single is "Come As You Are," with the Turnpike Troubadours. I'd paste it here, but I don't know how to do that on Bluesky, probably because I'm old.

Terrific.

Dave Franco and Alison Brie are great--and brave--in TOGETHER. Horror movies work when you care about the people. This one works.

What makes the Joe Pickett novels so readable is Joe himself, a good family man who gets involved in some serious wilderness shit. The books are compulsively readable.
