The onus is on the privileged to prove through actions that they care about the vulnerable, not on the vulnerable to accept the word of the privileged on faith.

Using your privileged voice towards social justice while also amplifying less privileged voices above your own is how to build a legacy of change.

When you are accustomed to being kept down, being confident and assertive feels terrible because you are stepping over that which kept you down. I am here to tell you that it's all right for you to take those steps.

You will hear people say that you should not sacrifice a promising relationship just because someone says something inappropriate early on. That's true to an extent, but if someone shows you red flags of bigotry or abuse early on, that is not a promising relationship at all.

Whenever necessary, feel free to borrow my voice in your mind to encourage you throughout all of your challenges. I am proud of you and I know you can get through all of it.

Whenever someone is unkind to you, do something kind for yourself to counteract it both in your own heart and mind and in the wider world beyond.

I refuse to lie to you and pretend that everything worth having is easily obtained. Sometimes you have to put in some effort. Not all effort will pay off. As you've heard me say before in regards to winning and losing, that is life. But I believe in you nonetheless.

Communities thrive when people fill them with constant small acts of kindness towards each other.

The more you enforce your entirely reasonable boundaries, the easier it gets. I know it's initially quite difficult if you've been taught all your life to put the needs of others first, but I'm giving you firm permission to invest your energy in your own shields for a change.

It's all right to be a beginner at something. It's also all right to decide you're happy at that level and then move onto something else and be a beginner in that too. Trying new things does not come with a lifetime sentence.

No celebrity, no writer, no politician, no medical professional, no family member, nobody gets to dictate your identity to you but yourself. I, for one, entirely support you for the real you that you are today and however that identity changes or not as you learn and grow.

You are not required to be useful every moment of your life in order to be a valued member of your society.
